She's Got the Book: with Memoirist Michelle Nold

Author of the Month Michelle Nold

This December, we are launching an artist AND author-of-the-month split. Every month from here on into the new year, there will be a monthly author spotlight and, additional artist spotlight. To find out what categories qualify for art, you can check out our post on blog. That all being said, my first pick for author of the month, and the December top candidate/winner is Michelle Nold. The author of Birth of a Superhero. A compelling read about the journey through life and into enlightenment, told by the talented and conversational witty, excellent story teller! Michelle's story told with magnificent candor and intellect, will absolutely inspire and motivate even the most fragmented, troubled minds. So, with out further adew, here is an interview with Michelle on the basis of her novel.

Welcome Michelle! What is the central theme of your novel?

Central theme is the power of words and how they affect us and those around us. Our words show the world who we are. They define our reality, a reality we have the power to change.

What inspired you to write about this topic or subject?

From the time I was a small child I was held spellbound by the power of other people’s words to the point of almost completely losing who I was. Other people’s words dictated who I was, how I should act, think, and feel. They stripped me of any dream, want or desire, dismissing them with “You can’t do that!” then reminding me of what my duties were.

What was your creative process for writing this work?

I examined my life and how words guided me to where I am today.

What tips would you give to an aspiring writer?

Discover your authentic voice. Write what you know best and are passionate about. Don’t Let anyone tell you what you can’t do, only you will know.

Do you practice any other forms of art, or creative outlets? If yes, which ones, and why?

I do a lot of creative writing and speaking. I am completely in love with words, the pictures they paint, and the emotions they create are magical, inspiring.

What is your purpose for writing over-all?

Writing soothes my soul. I also write to broaden people’s perspective by allowing them to see things through my eyes. I just offer another point of view, nothing more.

How did you research for this project?

I read a lot about neuroscience, human behavior and the effects of negativity, but most of the information came from what I lived.

What are your goals for this novel, and over-all as an author?

I specifically wrote this novel as a short read to just give one an idea of what I speak about and why. It does not go in depth about the science of human behavior. It is not really a self-help book. The point is to just illustrate how words can affect us, tell how they affected me and how I used the power of my words to change my reality. It demonstrates possibility not a process.

What are your favorite books?

I read mostly informational books but I also love books filled with descriptive language.

Who are your favorite authors?

Edgar Rice Burroughs
